What it is
Grepolis is a real-time strategy game set in ancient Greece: you develop a single polis into a city, research technologies, recruit land and naval units and pick a patron god whose favour summons mythical creatures such as the Hydra or Pegasus. Cities sit on islands in a shared sea, so expansion means conquering neighbours and coordinating with an alliance, with World Wonders as the long-term goal. Timers keep running while you are away, so it rewards regular check-ins rather than long sessions. Released in December 2009, it is free to play with optional purchases.
