What it is
Hollywood Stock Exchange is a long-running web game in which players trade virtual shares of films, actors, directors and film-related options using simulated money. Prices move with demand and a film's stock settles on its box office, so the market works as a prediction market and has a documented record of forecasting Oscar nominees. It is operated from Los Angeles and has belonged to units of Cantor Fitzgerald since the dot-com era.
